Lawrence "Lonnie" Leonard - Class Of 1952

OBITUARY FROM NW INDIANA TIMES, APRIL 29, 2009:

Lawrence W. "Lonnie" Leonard, age 75, a longtime resident of Valparaiso, passed away Tuesday, April 28, 2009. He was born on March 11, 1934 in Gary, IN, the son of Charles and Goldie Leonard. He was a 1952 graduate of Hobart High School. Lonnie proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He was married to Nancy (Travis) Goranovich on July 1, 1960 in Hobart. Lonnie retired after 26 years of service as a Field and Utilities Foreman for Bethlehem Steel. His great joy was model airplanes and was a member of the Sundowners Model Airplane Club. He also enjoyed computers and television.

Lonnie is survived by his wife, Nancy Leonard of Valparaiso; sons: Jeffery (Karen) Leonard of Porter, Randy (Patty) Leonard of Hebron, Michael (Jenny) Leonard of Valparaiso and Terry Leonard; daughters: Cheryl (Richard) Huntzinger of Greenfield and Susan Balchak of Highland; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brothers: Thomas (Joyce) Leonard, Brian (Diane) Leonard and Terry (Sandi) Leonard; and other loving family and dear friends. Preceded in death by his parents.

A visitation for Lonnie Leonard will be held from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 30, 2009 at Rees Funeral Home - Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Avenue, Portage. A funeral service for Lonnie Leonard will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 1, 2009 at Rees Funeral Home. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery in Valparaiso. Memorials in Lonnie's memory may be made to the Salvation Army, St. Jude's Hospital or the V.N.A.
