In Memory

Val Dant (Connell) - Class Of 1972

OBITUARY FROM POST-TRIBUNE, AUGUST 20, 2013:

Connell, Valerie Ann (nee Dant) 59 of Portage, IN, formerly of Hobart, IN, passed away Saturday, August 17, 2013, after a bravely fought battle with cancer. By her side was her loving sister, brother-in-law and former husband. Val was born on March 27, 1954 in Gary, IN. Sadly, Val was introduced into the foster system at an early age. Val was invited into the Johnston home in Portage for a short time and became very dear friends with Sharon and Vance Johnston. They shared many memorable moments together as teenagers. After a time, Val was then welcomed into the home of Mr. and Mrs. Hudson, who became her "forever family." She attended both Portage and Hobart High School. Throughout the years, Val was a favorite bartender to many at The Mortar Joint, Round The Corner Pub and Cressmoor Country Club, all of Hobart.

Preceding her in death is her wonderful foster parents, Willie (Papaw) and Juanita (Memaw) Hudson, sister, Sharon Baker and the most heartbreaking loss of her beloved and only son, Michael Ryan Connell in 2012. Leaving to cherish her memory are her sister, Mary (Tom) Trinosky, special nieces Alicia (Shawn) Graves, Melissa (Jay) Wayte, and special nephews, TJ Trinosky and Tony Trinosky, all of Valparaiso and brother, George Dant, of Portland, OR. Also cherishing her memory are her former husband and dear friend, Terry Connell and their beloved granddaughter, Mya Marie Connell, other nieces, numerous great-nieces and nephews, former in-laws and many dear friends.

Memorial donations are preferred. Send your donation payable to "Rally for the Cure" in memory of Val Connell to: Duck Creek Golf Course, Attention: Sue Paris, 638 N. 700 West, Hobart, IN 46342. The family wishes to thank Val's nurse, Kathy Mailwart of Porter County Hospice and Burns Funeral Home for handling the preparation and cremation of our loved one. May God keep her safe in his loving arms.
