Ronald (Ron) Sadelack - Class Of 1966

OBITUARY INFORMATION FROM REES FUNERAL HONE WEBSITE:

Ronald Sadelack, age 75 a longtime Hobart resident passed away Tuesday, November 14, 2023. He was born on August 27, 1948 in East Gary, Indiana to the late Edward and Mildred Sadelack. He graduated from Hobart High School, Class of 1966. Ron was a proud member of the U.S. Army, serving in Vietnam. He was awarded two Bronze Stars during that time. In 1987, along with Dwayne and Todd Hickman, Ron’s Marathon, Inc. was formed. They operated two locations, one in Hobart and one in Winfield. After 25 years, Ron retired and Dwayne continued with Hickman’s service. Ron worked at U.S. Steel for 20 years spending 15 years in Plant Security and 5 years in Labor Relations. He served as the Senior Vice Commander of the Hobart VFW Post 5365 and was a Lifetime Member. Ron was a member of the Hobart American Legion Post 100, the Forty and Eight, and a Lifetime Auxiliary Member of the Hobart FOP Lodge #121. Ron loved fishing and golfing with his buddies in his spare time, especially during his retirement. He was also a Lifetime Cubs fan.

He is survived by his wife of over 53 years, Nancy Sadelack (nee Northey), one daughter, Lori Lynn Sadelack, three sons, Paul Hickman, Dwayne (Dara) Hickman, Todd Hickman, grandchildren, Sheila, Christopher (Ale), David, May, Noah, Madison, and Levin Hickman, great-grandchildren, Quinn and Atlas Hickman, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and three siblings, Randy Sadelack, Edward Sadelack, and Bonnie Flanders.

Funeral services are Monday, November 20, 2023 at 11 a.m. at Rees Funeral Home, 600 W. Old Ridge Road, Hobart.  Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery, Valparaiso. Visitation will be Sunday, November 19, 2023 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. with a 7 p.m. VFW service at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart. (219) 942-2109 or online at www.Reesfuneralhomes.com.
