Mary Lee Phillips (Wilson) - Class Of 1956

OBITUARY FROM POST-TRIBUNE, JUNE 7, 2015:

Mary Lee "Chickie" Wilson age 77 of Hobart passed away peacefully June 6, 2015. She was born January 1, 1938, in Washington D.C. and was the first baby born in that year. Chickie was a graduate of Hobart High School, class of 1956 and IU in 1961. She taught Home Economics at Portage High School and worked with her husband at their business, Monroe Pest Control; but, mostly she was a homemaker, mother and wife. She was a member of Phi Beta Psi sorority and a long-standing member of Augustana Lutheran church, where she served on the Church Council and chaired the committee charged with the extensive remodeling of the church in 1987. Chickie also served on the Hobart School Board where she was privileged to have presented two of her children with their High School diplomas over the course of her two terms. She was an excellent cook, sewed her own clothes, and oil painted at the Hobart Arts League. She was a Master Gardener and loved working outside where she carefully selected and placed every tree and shrub in her yard.

Chickie is survived by her loving husband of 56 yrs- Dave "Red"; children- David (Michelle) Wilson, Kristin (Dan) Downs, Kelly (Tom) Tichacek; grandchildren- Hannah Wilson, Collin & Lauren Downs, Spencer Sandilla & Emily Tichacek; step grandchildren- Nick & Stephanie Stack; brother- Bruce (Kay) Phillips; many loving nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 2-8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 10, 2015, at Burns Funeral Home, 701 E. 7th St., Hobart, IN. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 11, 2015, at Augustana Lutheran Church, 207 N. Kelly St., Hobart. Chickie will lie in state from 9:30-10 a.m. on Thursday. Pastor Charles Stietelmeier officiating. Interment at Graceland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Augustana Lutheran Foundation. www.burnsfuneral.com.
