Dan,  What a fantastic job you did on organizing this website. Thanks for all your hard work. You must be retired to have this much time on your hands.  : -)

You would make a great pickle ball player.

Hello friends,

Help!

I recently posted an audio version of our Alma Mater on the website.  Click "Alma Mater" in the left-hand column.  Hope it works on your computer!

I'd also like to post the words to the Alma Mater, so could someone please help my aging memory and supply the words?  First to respond gets a box of chocolates, a warm puppy, and our undying gratitude (pick two!)

You may be interested to learn that when I contacted HCHS, I was told that they don't use the Alma Mater very much and they had to dig pretty hard to find the music.  But give them points...they recorded it just for our website!

Dan,

The Alma Mater works on my computer, Thanks.

The words are in the 1982 class reunion booklet.

Hail, Holland Christian, Our Alma Mater

We will be loyal to thy honored name

We'll love thy mem'ry though we may part

Ever may thy standards live in every heart.

Hail, Holland Christian, Our Alma Mater

For Christian training we give thanks to thee

We pledge ourselves to fight for the right

May thy banners lead us. Hail, Maroon & White.

Dan, you are the Man!

I am leary of warm puppies

Hi Dan,

I'm sitting here with 5 of my HCHS friends- 2 of them do not have computers but would like their profile info submitted and sign up for the reunion. I tried to do it on my computer but the site only recognized me and didn't give me a join now option.   How can classmates know to get their info to you if they don't have computers?

Hi Marcia,

Sorry for the delay in responding—I've been on kids/grandkids duty in NC and DC.

Please note that your two friends do not have to be members of this website in order to sign up for the reunion.   I'm sure that they will receive registration forms by mail several months before the reunion.

But if they want their profiles entered on this website, they really should have their own email addresses.   Perhaps you could set up a free Gmail or Yahoo account for them. Even if they don't have computers, they could log in on any of their friend's or family's computers and participate in this website.   If you/they choose to do this, send me their emails and we'll get the process started.

And if you can get your two friends to sign up, you get the box of chocolates that Melvin D. turned down. If you recruit ten friends, you get the trip to Hawaii.   20 friends?   maybe a Lexus?

Does anyone know the actual day we graduated in 1962?  Our actual 50th anniversary must be coming up soon. Sometime in early May 1962?  Check your old scrapbooks, etc.

Dear Anyone,

Doug and I will be going to the old campus for the tour and coffee next Saturday and have also signed up for the trolley tour of Holland.   Once we have found someplace to have lunch, we are not sure what to do until the reunion starts at 4:30.   We will be staying close to my mother's place in Jenison and would prefer not to drive back there only to return a few hours later.  Any suggestions for interesting things to see or do in Holland?   We have already seen the Holland museum.     Hildrene Blankespoor DeGood

Hi Drene,

Lunch at the Ottawa Beach Inn is pretty good and if you are into a bit of hiking and climbing 239 stairs, there is the new Mt. Pisgah Dune Boardwalk just outside of the Holland State Park.  Wonderful views of Lake Michigan, the State Park, Big Red Lighthouse and all the way to Holland.  A walk on the pier at the State Park is always fun.  And if you have room, the ice cream at the Ottawa Beach General Store is tasty!

Esther Brink (Bos)

Hi Drene,

Did you get my message about the trolley tour being cancelled?  We didn't have enough people who were interested.

In addition to the things Dan listed, dowtown Holland is a neat place to walk around. There are some wonderful sculplures and interesting shops, Eighth Street has been transformed, and the Civic Center has a Farmer's Market (don't know when it's open though). Kollen Park has been reconfigured.

A nice town to visit!

See you Saturday!

Esther

Hildrene Blankespoor (DeGood)

Thanks, Esther, for letting us know about the cancelled trolley tour.   We had not received your message with that information!  We have been in the downtown Holland area a number of times recently so I don't know if we will go there again or not after the coffee and tour of the old high school.  Maybe we can hook up with some of the others for a lunch in the area, however!   Drene

It is not true that I missed the Reunion because I wanted to watch the University of Michigan-Notre Dame football game.  Just ask my cardiologist and urologist!

Thanks for posting such great pics of the reunion.  Since I couldn't be there, it was a wonderful way to connect with all of you.

What's with the Yahoo, Class of 1962 Site.

Is that a spin off ?...Is it for real ?

Dan Joldersma

Thanks for your good and sharp eyes David!  I just totally forgot about that website.

Before the Reunion Committee set up our class website on Class Creator, I set up a test website on Yahoo Groups.

Because it has many more features, especially for planning reunions and other gatherings, the committee decided to use the Class Creator website instead.

So I'll delete the Yahoo website.  Poof!  It's gone!

our HCHS gang is having a week end cottage slumber party for our 70th birthdays.  we began to discuss the song that opened chapel during high school.  Was it Holy, Holy, Holy?  did we sing it often, with the choir? starting?  what are we trying to remember?  We can sing it still. <br>

I was a member of the choir all four years and I do not remember the choir starting the song we sang at the beginning of chapel. I do remember that a student usually played the piano for chapel. Holy, Holy, Holy comes to mind, too. Not sure though. Nancy Nienhuis Wilson

thanks Nancy,

we had quite a discussion around the memory of several of us about the song.  maybe something will come in to clear up our collective memories!  :-)     happy autumn.

This does not answer your question Marcia, but it's related in a way.  My brother John told me that Herr Bass always ended each choir practice with "The Lord Bless You and Keep You."  Any of you '62 classmates have that memory?  Is it possible that piece also ended chapel services?

I've received no details about the upcoming 60th reunion.  How to sign up, what time it begins, etc.  Can someone let me know?  Hildrene (Blankespoor) De Good.

Dan Joldersma

Hildrene:  Our 60th class reunion will be held at the HCHS cafeteria on Friday, September 30, from 5 PM until ?   No registration or fees are required.

Is your email address still drenedg@gmail.com.  If yes, you should have received a notice of the reunion on this website a couple of months ago.
