Everybody remembers Gerry. He was the tallest Basketball player in all High Schools. I ran into Gerry's mother in a grocery store years ago. His growth is what lead to his death. He graduate from college. He was a true sweetheart and will be dearly missed.

Wow ... there is so much i want to say, becuse i was there about three months after he was hospitalized and he was asking me to bring him a Pappadeaux's platter it was so funny. When he passed we were all so sad because he was like the captain of our ship no matter what.Coach Williams got up and spoke at the funeral because we all became a family from 1985 until death will do us part. And still today we are all close friends, we cherish the memories of and with "Big Slim". We still hang out together and still play basketball competively. Our lives have been so much fun these last 20 years and in 5 more years we will be honored in Austin,Texas for the 25th Anniversay of the 1988 state champs.Today guys still talk about it and reflect on it,they know who we are everywhere we go and others remind them a storybook ending that will never be forgotten.Gerry Eugene Holmes #35 jersey was retired at the 20th anniversary game and will hang in the rafters of the boys gym and his father has a replica of it,and it will never ever be worn again by a Tiger. A true Cinderella story that was already written and never will end. THE 1988 SAM HOUSTON HIGH SCHOOL CLASS 5A STATE CHAMPS WILL ALWAYS BE MOMENT FOR OUR CLASS OF 88' TO REMEMBER. P.S THANKS FOR ALL YOUR SUPPORT FROM TIDWELL,290 TO Austin baby................................Tigers forever.......

I did not know this had happened. It just crushed me to read Jodie's post. I think Slim was the only person you you could see coming down the halls that you never had a problem seeing. My heart goes out to his family. This is just a reminder that life is short. I loved watch all the other teams look at Gary and just have the look of how in the hell am I going to play this guy tonight.
