Ann Michelle Tessier (Seay) (1978)

My brother, Matt Tessier, died in a house fire early in the morning of March 7, 1986, in San Antonio, Texas.  He was 22 years old.  He and his roommate both perished.  They had just moved in 2-3 days before, and had smoke detectors on the counter in a shopping bag.  The landlord had not installed smoke detectors, and the furnace was faulty, which led to the deadly fire.  I miss Matt every day of my life.  He was one of the smartest people I have ever known, and the only person who has ever understood my sense of humor.

I was very sad to hear the news that he pased away.  Matt was so much fun and had a great sense of humor.  We would joke around in class and try to do the least amount of exercise in gym.

Matt and I played trombone in the band at Westchester Junior High. He sat beside me for almost 3 years and we would talk about the music and the small stuff that you talk about at that age. While either my senior year of high school or maybe my first year at UT, I happened to see Matt at a festival in Houston and we touched base on what we were doing and where we were living and had a really nice time seeing each other and catching up.

The Matt that I recall was one of the kindest, sweetest guys I've met. He was really quiet but once you got to know him, he was really warm, funny and just one of the nicest guys. When I heard he had passed, I felt the loss immediately. Though we knew each other when we were quite young, you never forget the feelings of being with certain people. Matt is one of those guys who never seem to leave you. I miss the feeling of being around the guy, the feeling you have where you don't even have to say much but you're sharing something together without the need for words. I and I'm sure all the folks and family who knew Matt still miss him. Much love Matt, I miss ya'
