Susan Mefford Busby was suddenly called to Heaven because of natural causes on July 4, 2018. She was predeceased by her parents Jack and Joanne Mefford. Susan was born in Long Beach, CA on November 19, 1952. She leaves behind her twin sister Sharon Mefford Akshar (Houston, TX), her older brother Robert John Mefford (Houston, TX), and her younger sister Cathy Mefford Hertzig (Seattle, WA).
Susan grew up in Los Angeles until age ten when her family moved to Houston, TX for her father’s career in the oil industry. Susan graduated from Westchester High School, Houston, TX in 1970. She attended Southwest Texas State College, San Marcos, TX. Susan met Peter Michael Haney in college and they married in 1972. They had two sons, Michael John Haney (Nashville, TN) and Kirk Nicolas Haney (Corpus Christi, TX). She cherished her sons and felt they were true gifts from God. Susan raised her boys in Houston until 1992 when they moved to New Braunfels, TX.
Susan married her true love, Timothy Layne Busby, on January 12, 1996 in Eureka Springs, AR. Sue and Tim were truly happy together. They loved hiking, traveling, boating, swimming in the Texas hill country rivers with their dog Sky, and cooking wonderful meals for friends and family.
Her passions in life were God, her two sons, her husband, and her two grandchildren Hunter and Kate. She generously gave her time and boundless energy to the elderly, children, and animals. Susan was full of love. She had a glowing, infectious, and loving personality. She will be dearly missed by all whose lives she touched.
A celebration of her life was held Saturday, July 14 from 4-7pm at the Elk’s Lodge, 353 S. Seguin Ave., New Braunfels, TX 78130. A prayer service was held at 4:15pm.
I considered both Susan and Sharon good friends when I was at Westchester. We had a lot of classes together and Susan used to just crack me up! Transferring from California to Texas was a hard move for me and I don't have a lot of fond memories of high school. Susan (and Sharon) definitely made living in Houston better for me. I hope that Sharon and Susan's family and friends take good care of themselves during this difficult time. I don't keep in touch with anyone from Westchester but from her profile, it sounds like Susan was dearly loved and enjoyed the life she created for herself. Cheers Susan to a life well lived and RIP.
