KURT SIESS, 49, passed away May 12, 2004 after a brief battle with cancer. Kurt, a native Houstonian, graduated with honors from Westchester High School in 1973. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Petroleum Engineering from The University of Texas. He began his career with The Superior Oil Company, later becoming an independent in the oil and gas industry.
Kurt subsequently earned a Doctor of Juris Prudence from South Texas College of Law where he graduated Summa Cum Laude. He was a member of The Law Review, a member of the National Moot Court competition team and the recipient of seven American Juris Prudence Awards. After finishing law school, Kurt was engaged in the practice of law in Houston. He was a member of the Houston Bar Association and The American Trial Lawyers Association.
Kurt met the love of his life, Kathy Caughey, 22 years ago. They were married on the Island of Hawaii. Their life was filled with travel and entertaining friends. They have one son, Matthew Preston Siess, age 7, who became the focus of their lives. Kurt loved hunting, fishing and cooking and was a master of each. He always considered being Matthew's Dad his greatest achievement. He spent countless hours teaching Matthew those skills and coaching his basketball and baseball teams. Kurt had a quick smile, a quicker wit and was an instant friend to all he met.
Kurt is survived by his loving wife Kathy, son Matthew; mother Joan Moss Siess; father Charles P. Siess, Jr. and wife Jean; brother, Charles P. Siess, III and wife Marguerite, niece Lauren Taylor Siess, nephew Charles Paul Siess; step-brother Thomas Muchard, wife Suzanne and twins Macey Clair and Thomas Wyatt; and his aunt Marney Siess Kepner and husband Thomas.
Appreciation is expressed to his faithful friends and care givers Katrina Edling, Carmen Charry and Damon Smith each of whom made Kurt's life better. Pallbearers are Charles P. Siess III, Doug Lueckemeyer, Damon Smith, Buddy Urech, Cory Pabody, Maher Tuma, Mark Kopelman, Thomas Muchard, Carl Wiedemann.
Funeral services will be Saturday May 15 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive. Internment following the service at Memorial Oaks Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Kurt Siess to South Texas College of Law, 1303 San Jacinto, Houston, Texas 77002.
