In Memory

Mary 'Susie' Susan Sublett (Martin) - Class Of 1973

Mary Susan "Susie" Sublett Martin

December 1, 1954 - June 28, 2001

The Westchester graduating class of 1973 lost one of its most extraordinary and beautiful spirits when Susie Sublett Martin died of breast cancer. All of us who knew her loved her optimistic outlook on life, her sense of humor, her famous smile and her enduring faith in God.

Those of us who attended Rummel Creek Elementary and Spring Forest remember Susie as an athlete and avid swimmer. Her career as a swim coach and physical education teacher at River Oaks Baptist School enabled her to pass her love of sports to a new generation.

As they watched her endure the difficult and painful effects of cancer, they learned new and unexpected lessons about how to make the most of life, no matter what the circumstances.

We are blessed to have had Susie as a part of our lives and thankful to have called her a friend.

Rebecca "Becky" Marshall (Hanna) (1973)

This saddens me, deeply. Susie and I were great friends through junior high and high school. Even though we had different interests, she remained a friend I knew would always be there for me. Her good humor and great smile are remembered.

My deepest sympathy to her family. Her brother, Chuck, and I were also very good friends.

Susie was inspirational; she was Herself, the best role model. Sorry to hear of this loss.
