What School Activities Did you Participate in and in what years?

French Club in senior year; attended many football games at Darrell Tully Stadium. My cousins went to Odessa Permian High School during the years I was at Westchester. They were used to their team being State championships; I was not. I was extremely proud of our band and our drill team, who, if you remember, performed in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York in November 1970, representing Westchester as the first school from the Spring Branch Independent School District to be invited there. Take that, Memorial, Stratford!!

Comments:

Married Carol Watson, class of 1974, on August 27, 1977, in Houston. Moved to Jackson, Wyoming in 1983, then to Ruidoso, New Mexico in 1985. Carol and I split up in 1987, sad to say, one of the great mistakes of my adult life, but stayed close friends until the time of her unexpected death, at the end of January 1998. She was one of the two great loves of my life. How lucky to have been so blessed twice. Life has been a roller coaster ever since, and I am currently back in Houston.

School Story:

I loved our high school band and drill team and football team and how well I remember our UNDEFEATED season in my senior year, 1971-72, as we won the District 16-4A championship and went to Kyle Field on the A&M campus, only to be flattened by Killeen. How I hate them to this day! It happened again the next year, too! Oh, well. I loved high school. Dreaded graduating.
Admired and respected Dave Figari and Oscar Cripps throughout my life.

Wow, Mr. Figari was just the perfect principal for our school at that time, the late 1960s through 1970s.  Tough and imposing but not frightening.  I was never hauled in front of him for any disciplinary reason, but I remember how he carried that air of authority and respectability as he walked through the halls.  How I wish schools today had a fellow like him as their principal.

Over the years, I've forgotten so many other staff members and faculty but I've always remembered Mr. Figari exactly as the photo above showed him in those days.  I've tended to think of him as a father figure for us in those days, but the reality is that he was only 15 or 16 years older than we were.  What a wonderful obituary written for him in the paper today.  I would love to have known him in my adult years.

Richard was also a friend of mine when we were juniors and seniors at Westchester.  He was a good guy, and I never knew what had happened to him, so I thank you for providing some information.
