Saved, Sanctified And Single, LOL!! Loving Life, Loving being a Daddy and THE "Paw-Paw" ! LOL!!! Grandchildren expect 5 things: Love, Wisdom, Godly ways, Godly words and Protection from mean ol' mommy and daddy, who is always wrong and never understands! LOL ! Children expect perfection (until they have to wear Parent shoes). I'll take the Grands, for 20, Chuck. LOL!

School Story:

I won't go into details, but just ask Clint if he ever feel asleep in the band room ...... Twice!?! I'm sure everyone who was there, remembers it well! LOL. Harold Sargent was a Stone Gas. There was NEVER a day without side cracking laughter. But Probably the most publicly known incident was at Butler Stadium. The area 4 Super, told Sarge he had no control over us. He said the band took too much time, during halftime. And Sarge instructed us to move through halftime swiftly, exit the field promptly, and to NOT do the ever famous, tradition of "The Colt", which ALWAYS finalized the Marching 100's (now you know you don't tell no black chirrin' nuttin' like dat, widdot splainin' the reasons why .. LOL). Welllll, to start with .... Anthony Watson and I had worked very hard on a lil' routine, which Sarge was not aware of. Being that I was the Drum Section Leader (Ha, Ha, Ha !!!) I saw No reason to waste our hard work. Sooooo, I stepped out ( a very gutsy act) and proceeded to do what we had planned to do. Being that Anthony and I were the Original "Ride Or Die" Brothers ... he joined me (we were Sarge's very own personal Pains In The B___). The crowd went wild! Of course, the band could not move until we started the cadence, so Sarge was putting a "Hit" out on us, at that very moment, LOL. What kind of Leaders were we, ..... huh? LOL ! After we finished, and returned to the line, I choose to wait until the crowd calmed down, before calling the Drummers to arms. (Tick,Tick, Tick, the clock was going) ! The band did an excellent show. As we exitted the field, we started "The Colt", but without the traditional section circles, so as to clear off of the sideline and enter the bleachers. So far, only Watson and Maxie are on the "Hit List". But still pumped up from the performance, zoned out, and apparently feeling the need to make the list, Lawrence Henderson pulled out of the formation, followed by Clint, JT, Robert W and eventually half the Drumline, and started the routine circle (FOTFL !!!) In Sarge's famous words, "Like Mindless Cows", Each Section of the Band began to do the SAME thing. LOL !!! (MARCHING 100 ALWAYS STOOD TOGETHER .... If 1 goof up, we all goof up ... No Man Left Behind). Afterall, Sarge always said " A chain is no stronger than it's weakest link"... I reminded him of that, later ... wish I hadn't ... LOL. And though it appeared Anthony and I were joining in, we were actually trying to break the circles and get everyone to get up into the bleachers. WHY? Because we, both, had established eye contact with Sarge, and I swear, my whole life flashed before me. Heck, even Anthony's life flashed before me. LOL!! Now, in those days, the Drum Section, alone, marched over 50 Percussionists. It was quite a task to recover that many zoned out musicians. Plus the rest of the band was zoned out, too! Well, that extra 5 minutes turned into our demise. We finally were sent to the parking lot, lined up, as if for the Firing Squad, and had things said to us that no child should ever know to be said. LOL ! We had proven "The Man" to be true, in every way. His last words were the final humiliation. We were instructed, no, COMMANDED, to return to the bleachers and sit with our backs to the football field, for the remainder of the game. No music, no watching the game, no going to the restroom, no talking, no NOTHING! And anyone who was caught even thinking about looking at the game, would not make it home, that night! The other band taunted us, and we could not retaliate. The crowd didn't know who was the craziest .... him, or us! He pretty much just blamed me for everybody's actions. LOL !!! It seemed like I was ALWAYS in his line of fire! But that was the position of Every Leader.
But he could never do anything to make us stop loving him. Those who were not in the band, would never understand. The 2 greatest influences in my days at Worthing, were Harold Sargent and Wanda Davis. We ALL Loved us some Harold Sargent. And that's just the way it Be ! I could not imagine going anywhere else. I didn't know it then, but my life's path, actually, began in the halls of Evan Edward Worthing Sr High.
Without a doubt, I had the best classmates possible.
