Tom's Obituary...

Tom Jordan Elias Thomas "Tom" Jordan was an extraordinary, authentic man who left this Earth, and everyone who met him, enriched. He touched people deeply and the solid friendship bonds he formed and nurtured were lasting, some going all the way back to high school. Tom was devoted to his family and took immense joy from their many successes. Marissa and Elias described their father as an incredible teacher, always learning and sharing. He taught Elias to surf, and they spent endless hours in the sea together. He instilled his love of music in Marissa and enjoyed bantering about preferences. In his wife, Joan, he found joyful companionship, great solace and deep love. He was curious and intelligent, willing to examine his beliefs and the world around him in a quest for the big answers. He plumbed the depths of the absurd for side-splittingly funny stories. Tom, a marine scientist, was dedicated to the planet and its life forms through his work and his lifestyle. He was passionate about the mission of preserving the Guadalupe Dunes and valued the many friendships he established through his important work in the Dunes. Tom was a steadfast member of ManKind Project of San Luis Obispo County. His support was invaluable for others in the group while he was equally sustained. He had a grand love of the sea and was an avid surfer and camper. Elias Thomas Jordan was born in 1958 in Shreveport, La., to Ruthmary and Noah Jordan. He is survived by his wife, Joan, and children, Marissa and Elias; sisters, Ruthmary Lovitt and Sandy Spalding; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Tom was preceded in death by his brother, Bob, and his parents. Memorial donations may be made to: ManKind Project USA (www.mkpusa.org), or a benefit fund for the education of Elias and Marissa (checks must be made payable to "Joan E. Jordan for the Benefit of Elias Tom Jordan Memorial" with reference to Acct. # 403 688 570, mailed to Rabobank, 6950 El Camino Real, Atascadero, Calif., 93422).
