Note to Classmates using our site:

First, please know that I do not have advanced knowledge of the wonders of computers.  Due to all the possible combinations of operating systems and browsers, compatibility for everyone is a complex issue.  I do know I have placed pictures, clip art, Mp3 music, etc. using Adobe Flash.  Evidently, Adobe Flash is vulnerable to hackers.  Great minds are working on ways to improve the current problems and until that happens, some of you may not always be able to view items that are displayed on our web site.   Until that time when a fix becomes available, I hope you will bear with me and with the computer frustrations I endure.

It seems that as we grow older, the friendships and memories from our youth become much more precious to us.  It is our hope that this site will keep us in touch with those friendships and the wonderful memories we made so long ago.

Solar Panel Installation is Coming!
Solar Panel Installation will begin with construction fencing being installed on Tuesday, October 23rd.

First Phase - October 23 - November 30 (approx.)

The first phase of construction will affect a majority of senior parking areas in the Main parking lot located off Utica Avenue.  The first phase will be located between Miller Field (Field Hockey/Soccer/Lacrosse) and along the Softball and Junior Varsity Baseball fences in front of the Gym.

Students parking at First Christian Church will have an access point to campus located at the D-building corner next to the Soccer/Field hockey/Lacrosse field during construction.   This gate will be opened at 6:30am and closed at 4:00pm everyday during both phases of construction.

Additionally, the area behind the gym near the Urban Garden and connex boxes will be affected by construction but should have minimal impact on day to day operations.  This area will be affected during the entire length of the project.

Students -- Seniors were given notice of the projected construction project during last year's parking permit distribution.  Seniors are encouraged to walk, ride your bike, skateboard, or rideshare during both phases of construction. An additional bike corral will be built behind the gym near the football/athletics weight room near the "I" building to accommodate the additional bikes being ridden during construction.

Community -- Traffic patterns for pick up and drop off will be adversely affected for students, staff, and community during construction.  During the first phase of construction, entrance and exit from the Utica entrance will be congested and Parents and Students are advised to find alternative forms of transportation.  Student drop off and pick up will enter off of Utica turn towards the pool and wrap around the student parking areas and exit the campus on Utica at Main. EXPECT MAJOR DELAYS if you choose to drop your student off on this route.

Staff -- During the first phase of construction staff parking will not be affected, but staff is advised to leave plenty of time as they enter and exit the parking areas.

Second phase - November 26 (approx.) - March 1 (approx.)

The second phase of solar panel installation will alleviate traffic flow, but will continue to negatively affect the number of parking spaces available to our visitors beyond the parking spaces located at the visitor parking area on the Utica Avenue entrance.

Students -- Senior parking will be affected as staff parking will move to the current Senior parking areas.  There will continue to be very limited senior parking and all seniors are advised to continue using alternative methods of transportation.

During our second phase, parking lot traffic flow will return to the normal entrance of cars on Utica, dropping students off at the pool area, and exiting out the rear parking lot to Adams Street.

Staff - Staff parking will be affected. Staff will move to the Senior parking areas. It is suggested that buildings A, B, C, D, E, cafeteria, and Administration park in the main lot and the M, I, J, Stadium, Auditorium, PE, and Athletics use the back lot.  Extra spaces will be chalked on the asphalt basketball courts behind the gym to provide extra spaces for staff.  IMPORTANT:  The cattle gate located at the courts will be unlocked at 6:30am every morning and locked at 4:00pm everyday.

During the length of the project, community and athletics parking will be affected. Due to parking space being cut by up to 150 spaces, parking will be an issue. That being said, access to the fields will be available to all athletic facilities and will not, at this time, affect event times and locations.

While we understand the timing is not ideal, we are happy to do our part for our environment by introducing renewable sources of energy the Huntington Beach Union High School District.

Thank you for your patience while we undergo this project on campus.

Did you know that there are students at Huntington Beach High School that are homeless?  Many students are struggling to buy school supplies and a nutritious lunch because of family instability.  Donations can be made that will help these students “in-need”.

The Reunion Committee is sending a $100 Christmas donation in the Class of 1959’s name.  Wouldn't it be wonderful to do this annually?  We have a Reunion Fund that we can make donations to and use excess to donate.  We were so lucky to attend Huntington Beach High and it’s an honor to provide support in a positive way.

Email me if you would like to donate.  Bev747@aol.com

Thanks to Doug McGlone for the following observations:

RAMBLINGS OF AN OLD MIND

You know, over my lifetime I spent a fortune on deodorant before I realized that people didn't like me anyway.

I was thinking that women should put pictures of missing husbands on beer cans.

I was thinking about old age and decided that old age is when you still have something on the ball, but you are just too tired to bounce it.

I thought about making a fitness movie for folks my age, and call it "Pumping Rust."

I've gotten that dreaded furniture disease. That's when your chest is falling into your drawers!

When people see a cat's litter box, they always say, 'Oh, have you got a cat?'  Just once I want to say, 'No, it's for company!'

Employment application blanks always ask who is to be notified in case of an emergency.  I think you should write, "A Good Doctor"!

I was thinking about how people seem to read the Bible a whole lot more as they get older.  Then, it dawned on me.  They were cramming for their finals.  As for me, I'm just hoping God grades on the curve. Enjoy your days & love your life, because life is a journey to be savored.

Gentle Thoughts for Today: Birds of a feather flock together . . . and then poop on your car.

A penny saved is a government oversight. The older you get, the tougher it is to lose weight, because by then your body and your fat have gotten to be really good friends.

The easiest way to find something you lost around the house is to buy a replacement.

He who hesitates is probably right. Did you ever notice: The Roman Numerals for forty (40) are XL.

If you can smile when things go wrong, you have someone in mind to blame. The sole purpose of a child's middle name is so he can tell when he's really in trouble..

Did you ever notice: When you put the 2 words 'The' and 'IRS' together it spells 'Theirs...'

Aging: Eventually you will reach a point when you stop lying about your age and start bragging about it. Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me, I want people to know 'why' I look this way. I've traveled a long way and some of the roads weren't paved.

When you are dissatisfied and would like to go back to your youth, think of Algebra.

You know you are getting old when everything either dries up or leaks.

One of the many things no one tells you about aging is that it is such a nice change from being young.

Ah, being young is beautiful, but being old is comfortable.

Lord, Keep your arm around my shoulder and your hand over my mouth . . . . . AMEN

Thanks Doug...............  :)

This Class of 1959 site has a limitation on how many characters we can type in our "Classmate Profiles" section.  If added space is needed, come over to the menu item "Message Forums" and post under "Let's Talk."  We want to hear from you and what you have been doing.  Thanks to John Wood for this suggestion.

It has been proposed that our class combine with other HBHS classes for our reunions.  We have them every five years and there is concern about dwindling attendance.  So, we decided to poll our Class of 1959 by mail. A Newsletter was mailed October 17, 2011 to 239 classmate addresses.  As classmates respond, results will be posted here.

I would prefer the Class of 1959 reunions combine with the classes of 1957 & 1958 = 33

I would prefer the Class of 1959 reunions to continue with just our own class = 35
