Comments:

I had to hurry and move out following high school. You know, life was calling and I had to answer. I went to UAH for a while until I got a taste of what it was like to actually pay my own bills. :-) I had an incident happen which peaked my interest in an EMT class. So - in 1989, I became an EMT.

I got a job in Decatur where I met my husband. We dated for a while and got married in 1990. Our son, Nick (aka Steven) was born.

In 1993 I returned to school to complete my training and became a paramedic in 1994.

In 2003, we made a family trip to visit Tim's grandparents in Kansas. On the way home, Tim confessed that he had wanted to live in Kansas since he was a small child. There were several events going on in our lives which needed some revisions.

In December of 2003, while spending Christmas in Kansas, we decided to throw out some feelers and see if it would be a good move for us to relocate to Kansas. The end of January we made our third trip to Kansas in 6 months and Tim put some applications in at a few places. With his background in disaster management, he landed his dream job in the neighboring county. Within 3 weeks from our visit, he was offered a job working with the Emergency Management Office and pioneering a volunteer emergency response team. He moved to Kansas in February of 2004. Nick and I closed the house down and moved in March of 2004.

It has been a whirlwind since then. Within a little more than a month, I had 2 job offers. The EMS service in the county we moved to had had an opening for 2 years prior to our move. The turn over rate is non-existent. It must have been meant to be. I was able to get my Kansas certification without too many hoops. I was also offered a job at a local community college helping with the EMT students.

As for "the kid" - he has been awesome! I don't know that I could have asked for a better kid. He has just a touch of his mother's determination, a lot of his dad's passive nature and a whole bunch of quick wit.

For 3 years, we had the pleasure of home-schooling him. What a gift that was. After moving to Kansas we opted to put him back into public school so he could benefit from some of the programs offered.

As he is graduating very soon, I had to find something to do with my time as well. I have been accepted into the RN program. My classes start in January and will complete in December of 2009.

School Story:

Oh - Coach McPheeters! We spent our breaks in his class all 4 years of school. I really miss him.

I think of our band quite often. The schools in our community are very small and though they really try to put on good performances, I find myself often comparing the bands here to "ours". Spencer really did a great job with us! I didn't realize how good we had it until I got a taste of "the other side". :-)
