In Memory

Scott Rhoads

Scott Rhoads"You are all sons of the light and sons of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness . . . For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. He died for us so that, whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with him. " - 1 Thessalonians 5:5, 9-10

So, what happened?

Scott and I grew up in the same neighborhood. He went to school with me starting in 7th grade at Grace Lutheran. Scott had a great sense of humor and was always able to bring a smile to your face. In middle school he was a much beloved class clown, admired by his classmates and teachers alike(although he gave the teachers quite a hard time). There was never a dull moment when Scott was around. He was also quite an athlete and excelled in baseball and basketball.

In between our 7th and 8th grade years Scott was invloved in a bad motorcycle accident and spent the summer in traction. The accident left him with permamnet injuries to his leg that prevented him from playing sports. Although he was no longer able to play sports, he never lost his sense of humor and I never once heard him complain.

Later in life the medicine he had been on as a result of the accident contributed to health complications that cut his life short. Scott was a good friend, and I think about him often. And when I do I can not help but crack a smile.

Wow, I did not know any of that about Scott.  He always seemed nice and did had a great sense of humor from what I remember.  That makes me so sad to hear about that accident and how life changed for him.
