Rosary services for Joseph C. (Joe) Ehler, 58, of Lubbock will be 7 p.m. today in Englunds Chapel in Slaton with Deacon Darris Linder officiating. Resurrection Mass Service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, May 30, 2009 in Slaton's St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Nicholas Rendon officiating. Burial will be in Englewood Cemetery under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton. Joe died Tuesday, May 26, at Parkland Hospital in Dallas, Texas, surrounded by members of his family.

Joe was a beloved son of Irene Heinrich Ehler of Lubbock and the late Ervin Ehler. He was the loving brother of Eugene Ehler and his wife Mary Etta of Burnet, Texas; Howard Ehler and his wife Rita of Midland, Texas; Lester Ehler of Vacaville, Calif.; Jeanette (Jan) Ehler Chapman and her husband Carl of Austin, Texas; and Emily (Amy) Ehler Willingham of Dallas, Texas. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Joseph and Emma Heinrich, and John and Mary Ehler, as well as a sister, Loretta Irene Ehler. He is survived by his nieces and nephews, Suzanne Copeland, Sheila Payne, Lance Ehler, Jeffrey Ehler, Dennis Ehler, Mary Ehler, Brian Ehler, Scott Willingham, Christie Costa, Christy Ellison, Wendy Baxter, Carol Raposo, Gary Ellison, and Jim Ellison. His survivors also include numerous great-nieces and nephews.

A lifelong resident of Lubbock County, Joe was born in Slaton, Texas, on February 4, 1951. He grew up as the fifth of the six Ehler children near Idalou on the family farm. Joe attended Idalou Schools from the first grade until his junior year. He then transferred to Roosevelt High School and graduated in 1969. Joe was a 1973 graduate of Texas Tech University with a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting. He earned his certified public accountant certification in 1975. He was a partner in the firm of Ehler & Hettler, CPAs. Joe was a member of the AICPA, and the Texas and South Plains Societies of CPAs. Joe's many clients in his accounting practice appreciated his professionalism, his strong work ethic, and the quality of the work he produced. He was well respected in the Lubbock business community. Joe was a quiet man, who listened more than he talked. An ardent hunter and fisherman, Joe enjoyed being outdoors with his family and friends.

The family wishes to extend their appreciation to Joe's many friends and the Lubbock business community for their support and concern during the past week.

The family suggests memorials to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 205 N 19th St, Slaton, TX 79364 or to a favorite charity.
