VEGA - Richard Wayne Potter, 60, died Tuesday, Oct. 13, 1998.

Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. today in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with the Rev. Bert Horvath, parochial vicar, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Vega by Vega Funeral Home.

Mr. Potter was born in Tulia where he graduated from high school and played on three consecutive district championship basketball teams. He was all-district in football and basketball. He graduated from West Texas State University with a bachelor's degree in physical education.

Mr. Potter taught at Sedan, Nazareth, Idalou, Levelland, Sonora and Vega high schools, where he coached district, regional and state champions. He was a five-time district coach of the year. He was a retired Army captain, a member of the American Legion Post 345 and the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

He married Teresa Bilgri in 1960 in Canyon.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Joe Potter of Silverton and Mike Potter of Canyon; a daughter, Joan Hooker of Lubbock; and a sister, Barbara Kerbow of Amarillo.

Coach Potter was one of my favorite teachers. He will be missed by us all.
