Services for Gary D. Sams, 55, who died Thursday, February 15, 2007 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, were held Monday, February 19, at the First Assembly of God Church in Indianola of which he was a member.
Gary was born in Seattle, WA; graduated from Indianola High School in 1969 and Iowa State University in 1974. He worked as an agronomist for DuPont Crop Protection for we years. He lived on a farm for 23 years. He lived on a farm south of Indianola before moving to town two years ago. He enjoyed his family, gardening, and auto racing.
He is survived by his wife, Sherry of Indianola; sons Scott (Angela) Sams of Altoona and Michael Sams of West Des Moines; mother, Margaret Sams of Indianola; sisters, Gayle (Glenn) Beckwith of Bangkok, Thailand and Karen (Steve) Carter of Indianola; and two grandchildren, Brooklyn and Peyton.
Visitation with the family was held on Sunday, February 18, 2007 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola.
Memorials may be given to Mission Outreach or Mercy Hospice of Johnston.

Gary was so cute and ornery, and a born car racer. His whole family were class acts. We lockered close together in high school and became friends. After high school and though my single years, and even into my married 30's I'd run into him and we'd visit just as if we'd just graduated. His family, like Jack Felton's suffered a lot of early death--good people. all of them . . .
