Dave Brewbaker

Dave BrewbakerDavid was born on Monday, June 2, 1952 in Des Moines, IA. to Howard and Mary Jean (Elgin) Brewbaker. He grew up on the family’s livestock farm just west of Spring Hill.

He attended Spring Hill Consolidated Schools until the school’s reorganization sent him to Indianola Community School District. David was a member of the Class of 1970, where he was an outstanding track runner and was inducted into the Indianola High School Athletic Hall of Fame.

After high school graduation, he enrolled in the Animal Science Pre-Vet curriculum at Iowa State University and was admitted to the college of Veterinary Medicine in the fall of 1973. He received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in the spring of 1977 and accepted a position with an equine medical center and the Minnesota Zoo in the Minneapolis, MN area.

Dr. Dave returned to Warren County and opened a large animal practice in 1978 and later operated a full-service clinic southeast of Indianola until his retirement.

Recent years he divided his time between the Milo area and his home “Casa Mango” in Culebra, Puerto Rico.

David passed away Thursday, May 19, 2022 in Iowa City. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his three brothers and their families – Bill (Cindy) and their children Chad Brewbaker and Sarah (Tanner) Urich and great-nephew Oliver; Jim (Janis Reese) Brewbaker, ; Paul (Connie) Brewbaker, Jessica (Derrik) Brewbaker-Hills and Jonathan Brewbaker; and longtime friend Kathy Spencer Judge.

Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 24, 2022 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola with burial following services in the Indianola I.O.O.F. Cemetery.

I ran track in High School against Dr. Dave. 
He had the longest stride and nobody could catch him.  

I am so glad that he had such a full life!
RIP Dave
