It was such a beautiful day today and as I drove in my not-so-cool minivan with the windows down, I heard Van Halen and IMMEDIATELY thought of you, Eric. EVERY time I hear a Van Halen song, especially "Jump", I remember you at the skating rink in Pryor. :)When I hear Chacka Kahn (I'm sure I'm not spelling that right), I think of you, too, because I remember you knew all the words to the rap. :)

As I was thinking about this today, it occured to me that this might be a fun thread for our forum. Here are some other people I think of when I hear certain songs...

ANYTHING Elvis, I always think of you, Brent Clay :)

"Heart of Glass" by Blonde, I think of Dunham, when he brought the 45 to play in 4th grade. :)

Anything Hank Jr. I think of Clint

"Centerfold" or "I Love Rock'n Roll" makes me think of Justin, when he brought those songs to class. Was it 6th grade?

Boston reminds me of Kent, as does the new Kid Rock song "Sweet Home Alabama All Summer Long" as it talks about long hair and smokin' funny things. ;)

Anyone else have any song memories?

02/25/09 06:03 PM #275

Eric Deerinwater

Thats funny, those are some old memories. Its funny how you have song memories. I have smell or scent memories. Everytime I smell popcorn it reminds me of when me and Troy Richardson and Ricky Woods use to box. Those gyms we went to to box always had a very strong smell of popcorn, the smell would just hit you when you walked in. The smell of fresh cut grass always reminds me of football practice. My grandpa use to smoke cherry pipe tobacco (he died in 97) I still smell it from time to time even though it isn't actually there. Then there is Vanilla, well lets just say I have a grown-up memory of vanilla.

Sarah,It was a beautiful day and those are some beautiful memories of a time that seems so far removed from where we are today. In reality those memories are all we have left of each other. From a time when we were all innocent (even you Bobby Scoggins Ha Ha!) and life was much more simple. The great thing about those memories is that they are strands that keep us linked just enough that when we do get the chance to come back together, we haven't forgotten who we were.

The one memory I have of songs from way back when is in 6th grade at recess, we used to do a dance routine on the basketball court to the song "Centerfold". Does anyone remember that?

03/02/09 01:38 PM #278

Eric Deerinwater

I remember that very well. Not that I was involved in the dancing. Just the watching and appreciating.

Shari Wisdom (Hallum)

You are good at that Eric!!

Gee Sarah I thought I was the only one who thought of Brent when I hear Elvis! LOL I think that program and one we were fairies or something. I remember my Mom and Gretchen's mom made our outfits. I agree with Eric, its cool how some songs just bring back memories. Just thought I would drop and note and tell everyone hi. All is well in Pennyland. Just work and wishing the weather would warm up soon. I cannot believe my kids are on Spring Break the week after next. This school year has flown by!
