Life has certainly NOT been boring - a real adventure that has led me in directions I would never have thought possible!!!
Attended Wesleyan College in Macon, GA for my Bachelor of Music. In 1963 I was Miss Georgia and participated in the Miss America contest and won talent scholarships which helped pay for one-half of my college education. A grueling year of appearances and classes and thankfully Wesleyan was understanding about my schedule.
I married in 1965 having met my husband in the musical "The Fantasticks". We had the leads at the Little Theatre...for those of you that remember it....."boy meets girl, boy loses girl, and boy gets girl back" and like the play we were young and foolish and eloped, much to my parents dimay after all the money spent on my musical education since age five. We continued to be active in the theatre and shared the leads in Oklahoma and South Pacific to mention a few. During this time I worked for Xerox Corp as an Account Executive and divorced in 1970 (just like the movie romances).
I remarried in 1971 to Henry Belk Matthews who was associated with Belk Stores. We moved to Memphis, TN for two years where I worked for the Chairman of the Board of the National Bank of Commerce and Robert Solmson, the grandson of the the Plough family (Schering-Plough) who make Maybelline. This position opened the doors for me to move to New York City where I lived for twenty years. I worked for Goldman Sachs on Wall Street for ten years in the International Dept. (during the fall of Beirut) and then completely changed careers. I joined the Estee Lauder Companies for nine years as the National Training Director for the eastern and southern U.S. Divorced after eighteen years of marriage and started my own company making television commercials in Vancouver, BC. After two years, I returned to New York City and rejoined Estee Lauder and remained with the company until 1994. In 1990 I married a Syracuse cabinetmaker and moved to Boca Raton the following year while still traveling for Estee Lauder. When they downsized in 1994 and I started Argyle Cabinetry (should have taken Wood Shop with Cia and Tina!) and sold my interest in 2008. Also during these years I worked as an Estate Manager in Palm Beach/Greenwich, CT for a wealthy "Palm Beacher" until her demise in 2001. Since that time I have been working with a CPA in Boca Raton and also work for Frank Gatto & Associates, a National Lighting Director for sports events. Divorced again after eighteen years in 2008 and enjoying life......am I the only one still working!
So as I said in the beginning....life has NOT been boring! Who would have thought? Certainly not me!
Yes, I am still working for CPA in Boca and just finished another hectic tax season! Also, I continue my work with Frank Gatto & Associates so I’m still not bored.
