School Story:
For me, being a part of the music department was the best part of high school. It was an educational experience and a whole lot of fun. I'll never forget our music director, Mr. Wayne Bailey. He had a passion for teaching, but he also knew how to get our attention when we were cutting up. Often when we were rehearsing for an upcoming concert or state contest some of us would become a little silly. He would immediately stop conducting the music, point his baton at us and say, "Oh,go to coda ! ", which is a musical term meaning to go back to the place in the sheet music where you see the coda sign. Some how I think the conotation was slightly different the way he did it. :) But, he got our attention and after a moment of brief laughter, cooperation and composure was regained. I remember Carol Gandy and I couldn't sit by each other anymore in chorale, because we joked and laughed too much. In addition, to being involved in various musical groups in school I was also in the IXOYC club, and Young Life, and enjoyed going to our football games. My experience at our high school was a great one with friends in and outside of the music department, and the memories were the best because of special teachers like Wayne Bailey who made learning exciting.
