I understand from Facebook that Basil van Iddekinge passed away in Queensland Australia earlier this month. I remember him as a wonderfully kind and jovial gynaecologist. There were many sad messages from a large and loving family.

When I think of Basil, I smile...jovial is a good word to describe him. To me he always seemed to be enjoying life, never took himself too seriously.

Basil and I did midwifery together at BBH, and got to know one another well. I liked him, and hope his passing was peaceful.

I knew Basil from high school days at Grey College in Bloemfontein. We were also at Mens Res together and played Rugby. He was always pleasant and friendly. He was also famous as the ultimate charmer of women! I am so sorry he is no longer with us. Alan Richards

I am you sure you remember Basil at Med school in his Mercedes convertible.
He was a charmer of note & had all the nurses drooling. We were registrars together for several years
on the circuit. Saw him often when he was full time consultant at the Gen
Always smiling & in a good mood. A great guy.
