All -
Right now, the tenative game plan for the reunion is to try and have the reunion either the weekend of August 7-9 or August 14-16. We are planning an informal gathering on Friday night (perhaps at a bar or bowling alley). We are planning the main event on Saturday night and then a pinic at the park on Sunday so everyone can bring their entire family (kids included). There may be a small fee to help with the park shelter rental cost on Sunday, but to keep cost down eveyone will be responsible for bringing their own food, drinks and etc. We are also planning on finding a location on Friday that won't cost anything to attend, unless one wants to buy food, drink, or participate in any entertainment (like bowling).
The question that I would like to present to those of you that have signed up thus far is with respect to Saturday night. Basically, we have two options -- Under the first option, we can have an informal gathering at the Shawnee American Legion or somewhere similar. The price will be about $30-35 per person (possibly less). We would cater the food (e.g., buffet style BBQ/Mexican) and the price will include soft drinks, beer, wine and some select mixed drinks. We can also have a DJ. or jutbox/karokee machine. This will require a lot of help from classmates as we will need to provide the decorations, coordinate the catering, buy the alcohol, handle set-up and clean-up, etc.
As a second option, we can have a more formal event at the Embassey Suites on the Plaza, with a plated dinner, cash bar, and D.J. or jubox/karokee machine. The cost will be $40-45 per person. The Embassey Suites provides decorations, set-up, clean-up, etc. Less work, but more expense and more formal. We will also be able to reserve a book of rooms at a discount for out-of-town guests or those that want to stay the evening at the hotel.
I know that things are tight economically, so I wanted to get everyone's thoughts on whether we should go the cheaper and less casual route or the more expensive and formal route. Since we don't have reunions often, I am not sure of everyone's perferences. If we go the less expensive route, I will need voluteers to handle docorations, buy the alcohol and bring it to the location, help with set-up, clean-up and cooridnation and handling of other planning needs.
Either way, we will please some and disappoint others. So, I don't want to make this decision alone.
Please let me know your thoughts. We need to make a decision on this next week to make sure that we can secure the venue and the date.
Please also encourage others to sign up on the website so that can have input in planning.
Thanks!!!
