Bart was, quite simply, a superstar - or perhaps "supernova" would be more apt: a brief, luminous stellar explosion. In high school I fully expected that one day Bart would occupy the Oval Office. Unfortunately, his life was cut short just a few years later in a motor accident. You made your mark, though, Bart. You inspired us with your courage to tackle any challenge head on and your unwavering commitment to excellence. May your soul be ever bound with the souls of the living.

I agree with you, Terry - Bart was an outstanding and amazing young man, certainly destined for great things in public service. It's a terrible loss that he died so young. Bart was a huge influence on me, and I still feel lucky that I had the privilege of knowing him so well. He was one of the kindest, most thoughtful and principled people I've ever known.

Bart Brown...where do I start ?  I knew Bart from childhood....I used to hang out in that neighborhood with Bart, Eric Melgaard and Gary Burr....

Terry Greenberg and Celeste White certainly spoke to his brightness and what could have been.  He was so far ahead of me in intelligence and poise....he would have made a great mark on the world.

I don't think Bart would mind one bit if I retold his fun loving side.  We used to play poker together and drink a little 3.2 % beer.  One time, when we were 16, we tried to buy beer at a convenience story on the Kansas side, and the clerk took our fake ID....!  We were so scared.....we shot out of there, and gunned the car out of the parking lot.

Then, (still 16).....so this is 1968.......Bart talked me into going to the Steppenwolf concert at Municipal Auditorium !!!!!  Now, my dad was the absolute strictest parent around....had he known I had done that.....oh lord.....   Now, our dates were.....and I really apologize.....for this  memory lapse....I think Bart's was Robin McCaughey....I know my date was Kris Whitaker.  I was so nervous, but Bart, cool, and calm, said everything would turn out fine, and it did.

God bless.  Jim Wilkinson

Just a note to all that Bart Brown was the real deal.  I don't have any big stories to tell but I agree with everyone that he would have gone far had his life not been cut short.  Bart was cool.
