Drucilla Ann "Druann" Kappel
Druann, 52, Kansas City, MO, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family Thursday, September 30, 2004, at the University of Kansas Medical Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Monday, October 4, 2004, at St. Peters Church, 6415 Holmes Rd., Kansas City, MO. The family will receive friends from 3-6 p.m. Sunday at Muehlebach Funeral Home, 6800 Troost Ave., Kansas City, MO, with the Rosary at 5:30 p.m. Interment will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Druann was born April 30, 1952 and was a lifelong resident of Kansas City, MO. She attended Christ the King and St. Peters grade schools, graduated from Southwest High School in 1970, received her undergraduate degree from the University of Minnesota and her Masters degree in Guidance and Counseling from UMKC in 1989. She was a member of St. Peters Church and the adult choir; a Franciscan of the Third Order; a Licensed Clinical Social Worker; Licensed Professional Counselor and a member of the American Counselors Association. Druann was dedicated to serving others throughout her life, beginning as a staff member at the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception parish, assisting those in need with food and clothing. She continued her service to others while working for the State of Missouri Department of Family Services. After receiving her Masters degree she worked for Catholic Charities as a school counselor and also had a private practice. In recent years Druann was employed by Liberty Mutual as a case worker and client representative. She enjoyed all that life had to offer her, in her travels, education, theatre productions, swimming, music and "boating" with her friends and family. Druann was preceded in death by her mother, Eulalia Kappel. Survivors include her father, Andrew J. Kappel; sister, Joellen Caskey and husband, Jim; nephews, Jim and Patrick Caskey; aunt, Mary Worland; many cousins and her dear extended family and friends. The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Alan Fleming and the compassionate staff at both the KU Cancer Center and Medical Center. Druann and I sang together for at least 4 years in the Gospel Choir at St. Peters Church. We would often talk about our fond memories of the S.W. Girl's Choir & Concert Choir... What an inspiration she was.  I'll always remember her strong, positive spirit after she discovered her cancer had returned.  Her focus was never on herself, always talking of her family and friends.
