Karin was and is my hero. She was dealt a tough hand, and she played it with grace, humor and boundless love. I credit Karin with encouraging me to continue dating the man I ultimately married, because I wasn't sure about him. In her wisdom, she was. She always remembered my birthday or anniversary with a card, and in that, she taught me the bigness of a small gesture. My fondest memories of Karin were in high school. I teased that she looked like a dark-haired Goldie Hawn, and she regaled me with some hilarious impersonation or other. So much fun to be around, with a gift of making you feel like the most fascinating person in the room. I will miss our times together. Such a lovely, unforgettable friend.
