It's been one year since my darlin' man found peace.  He was as much a gentleman at 60 as he was at 13, which is what attracted me to him at Bingham Jr High.    Miss talking to him every day.  Always will.

Rest in peace John; the demons of alcoholism are no longer with you; overwhelming you - thank God. Too much of same in my own family's past.

I didn't know John very well in HS (maybe because I was gone from SW a couple of years) but we played 3 & 2 baseball together as kids for the St. John's Methodist team of which John's Dad was head coach. I'm looking at a pix of the team but sadly I can only remember about 1/3 of the team. I'm guessing we were 10-11 yrs old. Some of the guys are John, Bill Brimacombe, Kenny Burrell, Danny Prezebel, Charlie McCord, John Pence, Jim Wilkerson, Bob Waggener and eight others whose faces are very familiar, but names long forgotten. Maybe someone out there can help me put names with faces?

We had a good team and we played in a nighttime (first time and way cool!) league or city championship game on 56 hwy west of Swope Pkwy., Seemed like there were hundreds watching the game, but in reality probably a dozen or two. I believe John was either our catcher or first baseman or maybe both. I was centerfielder and in denial of being blind as a bat - especially at night. I got lucky and threw out a runner at home plate in a later inning.Ii soon went from hero to villian. With the game tied and on the line in the last inning with a runner at second, I lost a fly ball in the lights, it dropped and I threw as hard and accurate as I could but I wasn't as lucky as in the prior inning - and the other team scored the winning run. I was completely bummed out, but who was the first one to console me? Big John. Out of humiliation, it was my last hardball game (had much more fun many years later - wearing contacts! - playing adult men's overhand fast-pitch softball after college, and coincidentally, across the street from that fateful game). But I'll never forget Big John's act of kindness for a dejected teammate.

Jadie, Alex and other loved ones of John's, my thoughts and prayers are with you.

Ah, Chris Mahley, you reminded me of the St. John's Methodist teams.  That's how I first met John Livingston, and his older brother "W.D." played with my brother, John.  So, that probably goes back to when I was 7 years old when we played for the Midget "C" team.  Sorry to hear about John.     Jim Wilkinson
