Bob was a dear friend and was embraced like a family member.  We first met at Bingham Jr High, where he stood up for me as I was bullied.  We enjoyed playing chess, although I never was able to defeat him.

He had an auto accident that damaged one of his legs, and later on he lost his ”good” leg during a work accident while trying to clear a grain blockage.

During all this misfortune, he always kept a positive attitude, and never failed to call on any special occasion.

He passed away at the early age of 50, and is sorely missed by me and our “group” of 5.

I did not know Bob Wiedersberg, but you said something quite important about his character-- that he intervened when you were bullied.  Given my short size until I grew many inches when I was a junior, I always felt fortunate not to have been subject to bullying, but I was always troubled by the amount of bullying I saw when I got to Bingham. There was none of that in my grade school (Ruhl) that I ever saw (except for one tough classmate who called me "Jew lover" all the time but never did anything physical since we had been really close friends in 1st through 3rd grades), so it was quite a surprise that there were so many thugs who seemed to truly enjoy tormenting other people when I got to 7th grade. I always felt horrible that I was not of sufficient size or skills to stop it. The one time I was going to be subject to this sort of thing was when I made the mistake of taking Human Science--as I related in my comment on Rusty Greathouse, I figured out how to be buds with Rusty, who sat in front of me, and that took care of any crap from anyone in that class (and Rusty and I managed to both get top marks).  I hope that some of our classmates who were on the "giving" rather than the "receiving" end of such activities occassionally think back and regret what they did, and if they have any guts perhaps even apologize to the targeted classmates.

I knew Bob and his older brother Everett. Bob was very likeable and loved to read. Always had a paperback in his hands. Once in vocal music class he was standing right next to a girl who was playing the violin. I teased him about it a little, and he told me he hadn’t even noticed the girl. Knowing Bob, I don’t doubt it.

I miss Bobby, I went to his funeral and felt so sad, He had a termenal case of brain cancer, and called me earlier the day before he passed, we always stayed friends.
