IN MEMORY

Fay Eddy

Fay Eddy

3/26/1950 – 1/23/1983

The following information about Fay was shared by one of Fay’s three sisters, Peggy Eddy Miller:

Fay was married to Stewart Rickey, which was a very happy “two peas in a pod” marriage, and from that marriage came her greatest joy and fulfillment, a child, David.  Fay passed from an epileptic seizure when David was just one year old.  (Fay was diagnosed with epilepsy, when she was five years old, after slipping on ice, hitting her head, and suffering a grand mal seizure two weeks later.  Her doctors believed that the trauma from the fall caused her seizures.)

Fay’s enthusiasm and school spirit manifested itself as an officer in the Drill Team her senior year.  Also, Faye knew in elementary school that she wanted to be a teacher because she loved her Sunday school teacher, Ms. Davies.  Ms. Davies’ full-time job was at the Delano School.  Fay would visit and watch her on many occasions.  Fay received her degree in elementary education and substitute taught.  (Because of her epilepsy, she couldn’t teach full-time.)  Fay always believed that her epilepsy stood in her way, and she was determined to live life fully even with her condition.

At home, Peggy remembers Fay, being the first of four sisters, being the BOSSY big sister.  Their mother would delegate jobs, and if Fay didn’t like hers, she would choose and do the one/s she wanted leaving the rest to her sisters.  She was the oldest daughter, and she ruled.

Fay’s husband passed in 2006 when David was 24.  David is now 36 and has MS; the large, surviving Eddy clan (all SWHS graduates), three sisters and two brothers have taken David under their wing, showering him with love and attention before and since.

I remember Fay as always having a smile on her face and laughing continuously.  She was a wonderful friend, and she made my life better every day she was in it.  Fay, thanks for cheering on the endeavors of your many friends.  And as Peggy reminisced, “Fay had everything for which she dreamed other than a long life.”

Faye and I were friends, and I remember 2 things in particular:

Going to her family's restaurant, Eddy's Loaf and Stein, on the Plaza, for her birthday. We got to order off the menu and were entertained by Nelson Eddy (no relation). Of course, we were all too young to really know who he was, but the memory has stuck with me.

My other memory is going to the Eddy's house and making peanut brittle under the direction and encouragement of Faye's mom. Lots of fun!

As an adult, I did reconnect with Faye, but she passed away very soon after. I do regret we didn't do that sooner.

I remember Fay as a very sweet girl who laughed at everyone's jokes.  She lives on in my memory.

Yes, Fay was a friendly, happy person. I can still remember her laugh. I remember hearing she passed due to an epilepsy event which occurred while sleeping.
