John was visiting his girlfriend’s family in Kodiak when it happened. The canoe overturned and he and his girlfriend, Lynn, both died of hyperthermia. He is buried next to his girlfriend in the cemetery in McMinnville, Oregon not too far from Linfield where he and his girlfriend attended their freshman year and met. He will always be remembered for his passion of what he loved to do, his artwork and baseball. John was playing Baseball at University of California in San Diego; there is a memorial award at UCSD in his name.
