Gary and I became friends after a food fight at the cannery going into our senior year. We continued our friendship up to his passing. Gary loved hunting, fishing, and many other team sports. We used to get together and watch boxing on tv. After he moved to CA we lost touch for a while. But when we re-connected we tried to call each other once a month to talk boxing and other sports. I had the honnor to speak at his memorial service. I told stories of our adventures and other memories. I think of him often. I still miss him.

I am so shocked to learn of Gary's passing. We had gone to Highland Elementary together, and on to Waldo and McNary. I have a random picture of him emblazoned in my memory from grade school for some reason. There was a certain very cool harvest gold ensemble he wore in 4th grade (Mr. Barriklow's class I believe), I can see it now. I knew that Gary was extremely bright, in fact I think he had skipped a grade early on. He was always sparkley, smiley, and very kind. Never one to be disrespectful or cause disturbances.
In retrospect I am so glad that I got to sit and talk with him at length during the 20 year reunion, it was as if I was talking to a distant cousin, someone whom I felt extremely at ease with.
