William M. Hill, 57 of Wells, ME passed away on June 3, 2008 at UMass Medical Center in Worcester, MA. He was born on January 27, 1951 in Ft. Lauderdale, FL and was the son of William H. and June (Hill) Ficker. He moved to Kennebunk Beach in 1954 where he grew up and later settled in Wells after college.
William was a graduate of Kennebunk High School, class of 1969 and went on to Middlesex Community College in Bedford, MA where he received a degree in X-Ray Technology. He traveled New England doing portable X-Rays at extended care facilities and various correctional facilities. He expanded his profession later in life to become Director of Business Development in his field.
Bill was an avid photographer. He had a passion for the game of golf that he learned as he grew up in the Atlantis Hotel next to the Webhannet Country Cub that he loved dearly. Bill was a loving husband and a great dad who will be missed by many.
He is survived by his wife of 26 years Linda Hill of Wells, ME; his son Peter Hill of Wells, ME; his mother, June Ficker of Kennebunk Beach, ME; brothers Peter Hill of North Conway, NH; Newell Ficker of Steamboat, CO; Donald Ficker of Machias, ME; Kim Ficker of Fryeburg, ME and 8 nieces and nephews.
In the early 70's I was managing a hotel in Byfield Massachusetts. One really stormy night, a gentleman got off I-95 and booked a room in order to get out of the storm. It was Bill. He never fully checked in because we sat in the lobby talking til way after dawn.
I'll never forget that night. It was a chance to bond with a friend and classmate. I am better for it.
