Joe Bill Ellender

After 34 years in the Winston Salem Forsyth County School System it is great to be able to retire and enjoy a slower pace of life. I was fortunate to spend 25 years at our Alma Mater, teaching PE and coaching Football and Wrestling.
I was honored to be Inducted into the East Forsyth Athletic Hall of Fame in 2013. My years at East Forsyth as a student and as a teacher/coach was a dream come true.
In 2017 I was honored to be inducted into the Winston-Salem Forsyth County School System Hall of Fame. I was fortunate to teach and coach many great athletes and students

I enjoyed my high school years enough that I decided that someday I might just return one day as a teacher and coach. That happened in 1978 and I spent the 25 years at East! It was a rewarding experience and a perfect career for me. As years passed I even taught children of classmates that I had graduated with in 1970. I retired in 2007 and have gotten used to sleeping late whenever I am not making deliveries as a part time courier.

Besides Kernersville and Winston Salem the only other place that I have lived is in Boone during my four years at Appalachian.

After retirement I started a courier business. I delivery computer parts and Home Medical Supplies to shut-ins and patients recently discharged from the hospital.
Presently I am driving a Sprinter van delivering industrial supplies. I have enjoyed the change in positions.

I have attended all the reunions and enjoy them immensely. The Reunion Committee does and excellent job of planning and arranging a memorable event. I hope the 50th coming up in a couple of years will be the best yet.

The 50th Reunion has been postponed due to the virus but will hopefully occur in September of 2021.
