Joan Marie Floyd

Joan Marie Floyd

God has called another Angel home. Joan "Joanie" Marie Floyd Nett, 49, of Winston-Salem was called home Monday, Dec. 26, 2005, after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Joanie was born June 15, 1956, in Forsyth County to Pauline Newell and Henry L. Floyd. She is survived by three sisters, Sarah Reese and husband Steve of Walnut Cove, Pat Mason and husband Lou of Winston-Salem and Judy Sipes of Winston-Salem; a brother, Ronnie Floyd and wife Janet of San Antonio, Texas; nephew Andy Sipes of Walnut Cove; and stepmother Opal Floyd of Winston-Salem. Joanie leaves behind her best friend and companion, Danny Fulton of Kernersville; and his entire family who was with her throughout her battle. Danny, you are truly an angel. Joanie leaves behind the love of her life, Caitlin her cat.

Joanie graduated from East Forsyth High School and worked for Cingular Wireless, formerly AT&T Wireless, for 15 years until her health declined earlier this year. Joanie touched the lives of everyone she met and was loved by her family and many friends. She considered her friends and teammates a part of her family. Joanie was an inspiration to her family and everyone who knew her. She fought a brave battle up to the end. She would tell you that she was getting better and she'd be right back to normal routine very soon. The family wishes to thank Dr. Charles Pippitt, Brenda, Robin and the entire staff at Piedmont Oncology for their care during her illness. We'd also like to thank the entire staff of Hospice, especially Donna, Lois, Megan and Michelle for all their care and support over the past several weeks. The care they provided goes beyond words. Thank you for making her so comfortable during her battle. The family will receive friends at Joanie's home. The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. today, Dec. 28, at Vogler's Main Street Chapel, officiated by the Rev. Richard Hicks, the Rev. Megan McSwain and the Rev. Shawn Dobbs. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.
