After working as a classics and rare books librarian for a total of 22 years in the Bay Area (first at Stanford, then at UCB), this year I made the plunge and moved to the East Coast, where I am the senior humanities librarian at the University of Pennsylvania.
My companion of 20 years, Gareth Panata, made the drive across the country with me, but died shortly after we arrived in mid-February.
For most of my years in the Bay Area, I also worked as a free-lance bassoonist, performing for 13 seasons with the Carmel Bach Festival, and with various regional orchestras.
