Gerald John Rossow

Marine Lance Cpl. Gerald J. Rossow, 18, was killed in action in Vietnam on Monday, Aug. 25, 1969 to become the 40th serviceman from the city and area since March 1966 to lose his life in the war. He would have been 19 today.

He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gustav R. Rossow of 2509 Losey Blvd., S. and a 1968 graduate of Central High School.

He was born in La Crosse on Aug. 29, 1950 and enlisted into the Marines July 9, 1968. He went to Vietnam in January.

Besides his parents, Rossow is survived by one brother, Douglas, of La Crosse and a grandmother, Mrs. Esther Roloff, of La Crosse.

Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. in Grace Lutheran Church. Rev. Gerhard Albrecht will officiate and burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery with a military service. Friends may call at the Dickinson Jackson Street Chapel Friday evening.

Gerald Rossow was killed in the line of duty on August 8th, 1969 in Quang Nam Province, South Vietnam.

He was serving with the marines
