Doug Kares

John D. (Doug) Kares, 49, 6860 W. Grand River, Laingsburg, died Friday, Aug. 18, 1989 at Lansing General Hospital.

Services are to be held Monday, Aug. 21, from Nelson-House Funeral Homes, McDougall Chapel, Laingsburg, at 11 a.m. Pastor Darold English is to officiate with burial to follow in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Owosso.

The body rests at the chapel and may be viewed between 4 p.m. and p.m. today, between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. Sunday, and Monday from 9 a.m. until the time of the funeral. The family will receive visitors between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m. today, and between 2 p.m. and 9 p.m. Sunday.

Mr. Kares was born in Lansing on Dec. 14, 1939, the child of John C. and Beatrice L. (Brown) Kares. He attended Thomas Street Elementary School and graduated from Lansing Eastern High School in 1957.

He resided most of his life in the Lansing and Laingsburg areas.

He married Grace L. Vincent at Laingsburg Congregational Church on March 24, 1984.

Mr. Kares was affiliated with the Grove Bible Church and was a member of the Looking Glass Sportsman Club.

He served in the U.S. Navy, starting in February of 1958 until June of 1962.

He worked at Buick Oldsmobile Cadillac Division of General Motors for 25-1/2 years.

Survivors include: His Wife, Grace; sons Eugene and Steve Kares at home, Mark D. Kares of Lansing and John Bradley Kares of Indiana; his mother, Beatrice Cramer and stepfather Howard Cramer, of Lake; brothers Dennis Kares and Dave Kares of Grand Ledge and Dan and wife Sue Kares of Holt; and, a sister, Charlyne and husband Ed of Williamston.

Mr. Kares was predeceased by his father, John Calvin Kares.
