Even though he moved here from New York late in high school Tim became my very good friend . We were on the swim team together and were lifeguards at Idlewild Park during the summers. He had a knack of making me laugh consistently and constantly. On particularly busy days at Idlewild Tim would climb the high dive ,walk to the end of the board and turn backwards. Standing there arms outstretched and his back to the pool, he would wait until he had everyone’s attention. Everyone would stop to see what spectacular backward dive the lifeguard was about to do. Tim would then spin around on the board ,pull his knees to his chest, and jump while holding his nose. Everyone would laugh every time he would do his unexpected jump. Tim was a gentle person and a kind soul. I never heard anyone say anything negative about him. After high school we lost touch. He moved to Alaska where he lived the rest of his life. I knew him far too briefly.

Jim was right about Tim.  He was really a special friend.  Tim, Fred Hauser, Jim Kornedis and I ate lunch together nearly every day.  Tim always made us laugh and he was expert at playing paper football. I wish I had been able to stay in connact with him, but I guess we all go our seperate ways.  I lit a candle and said some prayers for one special person.

I didnt know Tim very well in high school. I thought folks might like to read his obituary from the Homer, AK, newspaper. Tim certainly seems to have found his place.

This was the message we received from his daughter about the reunion invite.  Hi,

I received your invitation to the upcoming reunion. My Dad, Tim O'Leary, passed away three years ago. I'm sure he would have found some cosmic humor in a 50th reunion--that time goes by much too quickly.

Thanks for reaching out to him.

Take care, Mercedes
(His daughter. His sister Mercedes is still in the Latrobe area.)
