Bill Cook died peacefully and quietly on the morning of April 30, the day before his 36th birthday. Although Bill succumbed to AIDS, it did not defeat him; his hopeful spirit and innate courage saw him through and finally took him home to God.
Born and raised in Leavenworth, Kansas, Bill worked in the retail trade all his working life. In 1984, Bill came to San Francisco, working first as a buyer for Macy’s and later as a sales associate at Bullock & Jones and finally Neiman-Marcus.
Bill will always be remembered for his humor, joy, and generosity. A grateful member of Alcoholics Anonymous, bill gave unstintingly of his time and heart to the fellowship.
He is survived by his parents, Robert and Marie Cook, brothers Bobby and Jerry, and beloved niece Katie.
Bill is deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his dog Murphie; those who sponsored him in AA, especially Jorge; those he sponsored, including Ben; and many other friends, including Deborah Sharp and Steven Wright.
A Mass of Resurrection was celebrated for Bill at the Church of the Advent of Christ the King on May 4 and memorial services are pending. Memorial contributions should be sent to a favorite AIDS charity.
