Cynthia L. "Cindy" Spain, 65, Kansas City, Mo., died Dec. 26, 2013, at St. Luke's Hospice House after a long struggle withbreast cancer. Cindy was born Nov. 27, 1948, to Dr. James S. and Marabelle Hargis Mullen. She was raised in Leavenworth and attended the University of Kansas. During her life she was a crafter, a soccer mom, devoted to her children and an inspiration to her family. Cindy is survived by husband of 43 years, Kenneth W. Spain, daughter, Alyssa B. Springer and husband Jeff, son, James K. "Jake" Spain, brother, James C. Mullen and sisters, Elise Callahan and Janet Mullen. The family expresses its deep appreciation to the dedicated doctors, nurses and staff at St. Luke's Hospital, its Cancer Institute and Hospice House for the loving care given Cindy during her battle with cancer and in her last days.
