Plan a Class Event

Would you like to get together with your old classmates but hate reunions and all that is associated with them?

No problem!  Using our 1988 WL Class site you can plan a class get together even if you are not a party planner.  Some common excuses for not getting classmates together:

Excuse:  I don't have anywhere to host an event or my house is not big enough.

Solution:  Plan an event  or an outing in a public place, a restaurant or a spot you can reserve FREE of charge like public parks or churches.

Excuse:  I don't have any money and can't afford to host an event.

Solution:  Plan events that are completely "Dutch Treat" where everyone pays their own bill, plan a potluck event or have guests sign up to bring all the supplies.

Excuse:  I am no good at planning...all those details just overwhelm me.

Solution:  Plan something simple.  All that is required is the date, time and place for some events like coffee and dessert or dinner at a restuarant.

Excuse: I don't like to get dressed up and I don't like to go to 'fancy' events.

Solution:  Plan any kind of casual event you want; including hiking or camping.

Excuse I'm spontaneous!  I don't want to plan ahead.  I might change my mind.

Solution At the last minute, or a day or so before, send out a message on Facebook.  Select all classmates from your "friends"  and send the message or post the announcement to your WALL.  You can even do this stuff from your cell phone.

The class website makes it easy to take the lead in planning an event.  Through the site you can:

1.  Email all of your registered classmates to invite them to the event - with the push of one button

2.  Post an announcement on the main page that everyone will see when they come to the site...even those who are not logged in and do not have an account

3.  Set up a link on the website with all the details including a form for registering, signing up for items to bring or even paying for the event tickets or other items such as t-shirts.  All from one form!

4.  Following the event you can post photos on the class website

5.  Classmates can use the "Let's Talk Wildcats!" link to discuss their preferences or ideas for the event before and relive the memories and fun times after

If you would like the event posted on the class site or if you would like email invites to be sent for your event, please contact the site administrator by using the "Contact Us" button on the left.

Some ideas for possible events are listed below.

  1. Pot Luck Dinner at your home or a church fellowship hall
  2. Family Picnic/Cook Out at your home or a park
  3. Pool Party at your house or a public pool.  You can either reserve the pool and have everyone pay admission or you can just say a day and a time for everyone to show up.
  4. River Day at a private home or a park like Joe Wheeler or Cow Ford where they have pavilions.  Have classmates with boats come and take up a collection to pay for their gass.
  5. Dutch Treat Restaurant Dinner for couples or families.  Ex:  Ruby Tuesday, Saturday Night at 7 pm (avoid prime dinner times)
  6. Couples Only Hosted Dinner Party at someone's home.  You can provide the main dish and assign sides.  Make a theme for the dinner (Mexican, Potato Bar, etc.).  Get $5 pizza from Little Ceasar and have others bring salad.
  7. Couples only dessert at someone's home or a restuarant or even Starbucks.  Plan it a little later than dinner time or in the afternoon.  Serve a store bought dessert.
  8. Couples Only Cookout at someone's home.  You can have music, games, cocktails...whatever you want.
  9. Holiday Party - Christmas or New Year's Eve Party.  Events can be planned around holiday weekends when out of town classmates might be in town visiting their parent's.
  10. Cruisin the Square Reunion - There is a Facebook site for this.  Sign up as a fan and find out when the next event will be held.  Then message all classmates to meet in a specific location on the square.
  11. Golf Outing or some other type of "activity" or special interest group.
  12. Shopping Outing the day after Thanksgiving or seasonal sales.
  13. Spa Trip.  This can be to a full service spa like the Marriott in the Shoals or to the Westin at Bridgestreet or to a local spa like Dan Tera or Salon le Jules.  Appts. necessary for these type events.
  14. School Reunion/Football Game/Tailgating.  Just pick a home game and tell everyone where to meet.  If you want to tailgate before the game let people know to bring a snack and arrive in time to have a designated area in the parking lot.
  15. Hiking or Camping.  Chose a day, time and a location for meeting.  Meet at a location in town and travel to the site together or simply let people know where you plan to go.
  16. Road Trips (rafting, canoeing, amusement parks, etc.).  Chose a date, a location and a meeting place for car pooling.  Make sure the venue is OPEN on that day.  Check opening times and publish how much tickets cost.
  17. Family Outing - This could be at the Botanical Gardens (any season), Pt. Mallard, Zoo, Cathedral Caverns, Hockey/Baseball/Other Sporting Events, Miniature Golf, Concerts in Park, Memorial Day Balloon Race.  Just publish the details: when, where, what time, cost and where to meet.
  18. Other ideas.  The sky is the limit.  Just be creative but please do not ask us to use this site or classmate contact info to plan Avon, Pampered Chef or other parties of that type. Thanks!

Remember, the spirit of class gatherings is just to spend quality time with one another.  Let's not lose that in stressing over the details and trying to make a "perfect" event.  Don't wait to get together...another year will pass us by.
