hehe, Hi Angie =)

Question: I'm assuming it's an adult only reunion? Or will it be a picnic type thing where the whole family is invited (children as well)? I understand everything is not planned yet, but just something for the "planners" to think about.

Everbody needs to say what they are going to bring to the picnic. So nobody brings the same thing.

Agreed. We'll post some kind of sign-up list for the picnic probably a month before the reunion.

Has there been any discussions with the planning commity about a memory book/alumni directory?

If not, and if there is enough interest from those attending, I would like to volunteer my services toward this. I regularly put together magazines and books for both print and web as part of my freelance work.

I could not only put it together, but I can arrange to have it printed. Print on Demand services have made publishing a hardbound book really cost effective. It could also be a way to raise funds for future reunions.

Let me know if anyone is interested. With enough planning putting together such a book is not a problem.

Tim, the rest of the commitee, if you need any graphics for print(or web) in planning the reunion like flyers or mailers, paper invitations, posters etc., let me know. I would be willing to volunteer for that as well.

I would have offered sooner but I wasn't sure until you guys announced the dates whether I was going to be able to make the reunion.

Could we also arrange a tour of the "new" high school? I know it's been up a while but I haven't had a chance to see it since I don't live in Lima.

Hello EVERYBODY!!!!!

I hope everyone is well and in good spirits!

I look forward to seeing everyone soon..
If anyone gets a chance can you go to Kewpee for me and get me a double cheeseburger a malt, some fat jacks pizza, a tenderloin from happy daz, and some famous recipe???????????????

I've got a taste for all of that right now and can't have it.

Angela,

Thanks for the offer to volunteer your graphic design expertise. The committee is meeting again next week, and I'll bring those items up with the group. Due to limited funds, I doubt we'll do any printed items, but some kind of digital booklet might be nice. I'll let you know soon.

We had already discussed a tour of the new school, and will look into setting something up.

Thanks,
Tim

Tim,
That is excellent. Please keep me posted.

When you and the committee feel it's right I think a message needs to go out to all alumni requesting input on the content of the book.

Concerning the book itself:

I think we could do more then a electronic book. With a printer like Lulu there isn't any funds required up front because the books are printed as they are ordered. Only those wanting a printed book would need to pay.
Printers like lulu also handle taking the payments. There is even an option to provide a free download of the book. That would cover electronic distribution to those wanting the book but not wanting a print version. This covers bandwidth which is the biggest issue with electronic distribution. We would only need to provide everyone with the link to order the book.

You can go to www.lulu.com to see what I mean.

hi everyone. i just found out about this website today. didn't know we were having a reunion so i guess i missed the deadline to sign up for the reunion but could i still attend the family picini?

Well, I had hoped to hear back from the reunion committee before now in regard to what kind of book they wanted to put together, and whether or not we would be printing it(Both effect how the book is produced), but since I haven't heard anything and time is getting short( the reuion is little over a month away) and I'm having to squeeze this project in my free time I thought I would start a discussion by quickly throwing together two covers. I can adjust the covers after I get a feel for what you guys would like in terms of a book.

I also quickly put up a blog so people could look at and discuss the covers in one place. Here is the link.
Here are some thoughts/questions I had regarding this book

1. How much space should each student have to say a little about themselves? I was thinking a half page to a whole page.

I am prepared to put together a questionare for people to fill out OR I can use the information people posted to this site. Personally I think that a questionare would be more interesting, give people the opportunity to tell more about themselves and keep the format from alumni to alumni consistent.

2. I would like to do a followup content from the yearbook from our senior year. Articles about pop culture(movies, tv, music, fashion etc) Maybe interested alumni could help out with the writing or editing of such pieces?

Additionally I would like to follow up on the alumni that would elected "Most likely to succeed", "Class Clown", "Most Athletic" etc. I think it would be interesting to do a piece about them. Or at least a quick glimsp at where they ended up.

3. I've already contacted people at Lima Senior and received images of the old school and the new school so we could do a piece on that. If anyone has pictures from inside the old school I would appreciate copys of them, sent either through the mail or by email (ask me about scanning resolutions before you do so).

Lastly Please go look at the covers, put your two cents in, as this is your book Class of '98. What do you want to see? What makes you feel nostalgic? What memories from school do you want to share/remember with your former classmates?

If anyone from the committee wants to get in contact with me about the book, be it for ideas, comments or what ever please go to my portfolio contact page. It lists all the ways I can be reached.

Sorry for the long post! Can't wait to hear from all of you!

I like the second cover...but I do like some of the graphics you have on the first one. I like all the ideas, but I'm not on the committee. :)

i like the second cover too.

I have a few more I want to toss out there, I'll let you know when they are done. They're taking longer to complete then I would like. Not that I'm complaining. I'm really enjoying working on this, just have to do the work tha pays the bills first ;)

One last thought before I head off to bed, I do event photography sometimes... Maybe I can bring my camera kit to take some photos at the reunion? Just a thought.

Jen Doute (Smith)

LOL Clever cover that you added on as an option, but I'll stick to my vote for the other one. Would you put the photos in the book that you would take at the reunion? Not a bad thought if thats the case.

07/29/08 05:37 PM #41

Angela Jones

That's the idea, but it would push the publish date after the reunion. If that is the case i would want the publish date to not be too far off from the reunion, like three weeks tops just enough time to post process the photos.

Angie-WOW! I love all of your ideas! Personally, I agree with Jen and Christina and like the 2nd cover the best. I think once it is finished, this book will be amazing, and we all appreciate your hard work and expertise!

Angie, I think it should have reunion pictures in it. That is my opinion. I know I wouldn't mind getting a reunion book a month or so after the reunion. Isn't the point of the book to be somewhat of a new Yearbook. Where we are now and what we have done for the past 10 years? Also I really like the Jean pocket cover, it screams Class of 98.

Hi Everyone - I hope the reunion was great. I was sorry that I was not able to make it. It's hard living so far away and not having anyone to watch my daughter while I was away. I hope you guys took pictures - I'd love to see some! Let me know if anyone has a myspace or facebook page...
