In Memory

Roxanne Petersen (Wiese)

Roxanne Marie Petersen Wiese, 25, passed away on May 2, 1980. She was born September 29, 1954 in Omaha to Dick and Betty (Pyle) Petersen.

Roxanne was kind, caring, smart and attractive. She was reserved but had a fun sense of humor.

Roxanne was a Hi-Styler at Hovland-Swanson's department store in downtown Lincoln in the Girls Juniors' Department. She and Jill Joyce represented Lincoln Southeast. Most every high school girl knew about Hov's. Roxanne was stylish and a hard worker, a perfect combination for the position.

Roxanne studied Interior Design at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln until she decided her chemistry classes could be put to another use. She became a Registered Nurse, graduating from Lincoln General Hospital School of Nursing in 1976.

She married Tom Wiese, Class of 1972, on August 6, 1977.

Roxanne had been employed at a Kidney Dialysis Clinic in Kansas City when she passed away.

Roxie was such a fun & sweet friend to have. I became friends with her in 5th grade when she changed schools and came to Sheridan.  We had some great weekends in Jr. High at the family cabin on a lake by Fremont.  I learned to water ski on that lake and we went sailing also.  One of my clearest memories of one weekend when I received a nasty burn on my leg from one of their mini (motor) bikes!  My dad had told me to stay off of them, but he wasn't there, so I chanced it.  Then for the next couple of weeks I had to try and hide it from him!!  All my memories of Roxie are fun & sweet ones.....

I met Roxie when we were in elementary school together. Her Mom was our Blue Bird leader. She was always a sweet girl and so cute. We went separate ways in high school and I didn't talk to her much but I will never forget her.

Roxanne was a good friend; a great girl and a lovely woman.  We were friends from 9th grade through high school, college, and until her untimely death.  If any of you remember having a class with Roxanne, you probably remember she was SMART!  A good kind of smart - she never put it out there for all to see; she just did her work a little easier and a little better than most of us.  I wish she were still with us.  Love ya, Rocky!  Patty

Roxanne and I were friends throughout our time at LSE and ended up going to nursing school together. Just as Patty said in her post, Rocky was very smart!  Nursing school was challenging; we worked together on a variety of assignments and she always did a great job. She was a very hard worker, so good to her patients, conscientious, caring and kind and always professional, even as a student nurse.  We lived together when we did our pediatric rotation at Children’s Hospital in Omaha and had fun mixed in with our work as we learned together about caring for children. I know she enjoyed her work as a nurse at the Dialysis Center in Kansas City, too.  She was a good friend, a good person and a good nurse.  I miss her.  Sue

Roxanne was my best friend. She was a true-blue friend, steadfast and always giving. In high school we laughed about being what we were (teenagers) and what we'd be 70 years later. I keep in touch with Roxanne's family, her mother and brothers, and we honor her memory simply by being together. She was a beautiful person and an especially beautiful friend.

Today is May Day.  My most vivid memory about May Day is leaving a May basket for Roxanne in what must have been third grade or perhaps younger.  I had a big crush on her and still remember (perhaps as our class was being split up at Bryan Elementary) that I was teasing her and she gave me a quick kiss on the cheek (what was probably my first romatic kiss).  It is a very happy memory.

I had the privilege of being a friend of Roxanne's starting in High School and on through the rest of her life.  She was a wonderful person.  Everyone loved her.  She was always thinking of others and added to all the lives she touched.  She was beautiful inside and out.  The world was a better place when she was in it.  I thank the Good Lord for blessing us with Roxanne.

I didn't know Roxanne as well as others, but we shared a few classes together.  She was a very sweet and yes quietly smart girl.  I'm saddened to hear she is gone.

I remember roxanne from good old Bryan Elementry school i think it was in the 4th grade. She was one of my friends back then and i always will remember those times. Didnt see much of her in High School, but i thought of her as the person i knew in the past. She lived to short of a life but it seemed to be Full life.

I first met Roxanne when we attended the same Sunday School class as elementary-aged children. Although she is physically gone from our midst, Roxanne's warm, beautiful smile and her genuine lovingkindness are her timeless legacy...
