Mary Ethel died on Oct.4, 2006. I missed out on her last few years. We had remained close friends through college, even living together for several years. When I'd come back from AK for a visit I'd try to look her up, she was a hard one to find. When I moved back to Lincoln, the path grew cold.

"Mary Ethel", you couldn't just call her Mary, worked for the NE Tourism Dept as the Marketing Director. She was the author of "Off the Beaten Path: Nebraska" a detailed look at NE attractions and little known places. There are several editions. The book was published under her gramdmother's name, Hannah McNally.

During the funeral Mass at St. Teresa's, someone said that what she feared most was not being remembered. St. Teresa's was standing room only that day, folks from all over Nebraska that she had befriended during her journeys made the trip here to remember her. People from all of her places of employment were there to remember her. And several of us were there to remember her. Mary Ethel will always be remembered in so many ways.
