Fran Gustavson (Bremer)

Fran Gustavson (Bremer)

Fran Gustavson Bremer, age 64, of New Smyrna Beach, passed away Tuesday, December 27, 2016 in her home.  Born November 18, 1952 in Norfolk, Virginia to a Navy family, she lived all over the world. She was raised in Maitland FL and found her home and life in New Smyrna Beach in 1979.

Owner of the Wicker Basket Boutique since 1979, Fran was a civic leader and pillar of the community.  From 1985 until 2000, she was a board member of the Community Redevelopment Agency, which redeveloped both Canal Street and Flagler Avenue.  So tireless was she in this work that her son, Seth, thought that he had been born in City Hall.  She was instrumental in reviving the Flagler Avenue Merchants Association and was co-founder and treasurer of the Merchants of Flagler Avenue for 25 years.  In these endeavors, she was famous for uniting family and friends alike, to assist in the many festivals and activities on the street.  Her proudest accomplishment, however, was raising her sons, which she dedicated her life, love, and soul to doing.

Survivors include her sons, Seth and his wife, Brittany, of Scottsdale, Arizona, and Sean and his wife, Janine, of Orlando; a sister, Mandee Loiacono and her husband, Steve, of Maitland; grandchildren, Eileen and Ezra Bremer, both of Scottsdale; and many loving friends she considered to be family.

A celebration of Fran’s life will be held at 3:00 p.m. Monday, January 2, 2017, at Coronado Community United Methodist Church in New Smyrna Beach, with the Reverend Laura Berg officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Edgewater Animal Shelter, 605 Mango Tree Drive, Edgewater, FL 32132.
