She was an amazingly strong woman and the best childhood friend ever!!!  Kathy lived her life on her own terms and died on her own terms.  She fought hard against the cancer because Ashley's graduation was so important to her.  According to Chuck, she kept the details of the progression of the cancer to herself (and him) till the very end.  While she shared some of it with me, it was never to the full extent.  The last time I saw her, I offered to pick her up and take her to the doctor before our lunch date.  She told me she was fine and would meet me afterward.  We had an amazing 3 hours together before I headed back to Jax.  We had a plan to have her come to Jax and stay with us for a few days in late May or early June.  She went home to be with the Lord on our anniversary (May 14.)  It was an incredibly sad anniversary that year, but now it is a sweet memory of our friendship.  Chuck told me later that Kathy knew she would not have the trip to Jax, but NEVER wanted to be defined by her illness.  My life is richer for being able to call her my friend.
