In Memory

Gary Olsen

Gary Olsen

Gary Olsen passed away on Wednesday, August 12, 2015 after an eighteen-month battle with Mesothelioma. He is survived by his wife, DeeDee, their daughter, Danielle, and three grandchildren, Alex, Julian and Madison. He is also survived by his father, stepmother, brother, two sisters, two stepsisters and a stepbrother.

Gary and DeeDee were living in Daytona at the time of his death. They had previously lived in Portageville, MO, and Red Feather Lakes, CO. His dream had been to move back to Florida near the beach and retire.  He loved the beach and always wanted to have a sail boat. He also had a passion for fast cars.

Gary was loved by his family and friends, and he will be greatly missed. He was a Christian, committed to the Lord whom he dearly loved. He had compassion for others and helped anyone that he could. In addition to his strong faith, Gary will always be remembered by his love and commitment to his family.

A memorial service is planned for Wednesday, August 26, 2015 at 4 pm at the White Chapel Church in South Daytona.

I know I posted on FB about Gary, but he was a great friend to me in H.S.  Just one of the nicest guys I knew!  Memories of him just make me smile!  The obit is beautiful and I'm sure he was an even greater guy as an adult, husband, father and grandfather.  Like I said on FB, he gave me a "huge" teddy bear in H.S. that I kept until it's fur was falling out.....about the time Mandy was in middle school (that would have been appx. '92.)  It was loved by me and both our girls!  Praying for God's perfect love, comfort and strength to his family in the weeks and months to come.

Gary was such a sweet person during our high school years. He was kind & considerate as well as the rest of his family that I had the pleasure of knowing many years ago prior to our high school years. May you rest in peace Gary. May your family find peace & comfort in their faith, family & friends. God Bless you all.

My prayers go out to all of the Olsen family. I pray that the peace of God that passes all human understanding guards your hearts and minds during this difficult time. I also pray that He continues to comfort you as the days go by and as you are continuing to miss Gary. While I didn't know Gary well, I was positively impressed by the little I did know which was mainly that he was a rather soft spoken individual (which I enjoyed) and not at all pretentious, but smart and sincere. I am glad to read that Gary was a believer in Christ. This gives us hope, who also believe, that we will get to see him again in God's timing...God's speed...which is always  perfect timing.

Sweet, sweet Gary!  We were so in love our senior year until we went our separate ways after graduation.  He was so kind, compassionate and had an incredible sense of humor....what a smile!  He did love his cars and  his #61 football jersey 😊. I'm comforted in the fact that he is now free of pain and with his Lord and Savior.

My step-brother Gary was the sweetest man ever. Never had a bad word to say about anyone. Always found good. I miss him terribly. The memorial service yesterday was beautiful and perfect. Most of our family was able to attend plus our good friend Judy Dorn and a Navy friend Steve. His wife presented his dad with the flag. Thank you all for your kind words for him.
