Mike Schultz

Michael (Mike) S. Schultz, 1953 – 2016

Michael (Mike) S. Schultz, 63, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 15, 2016, after a valiant battle with cancer. He was born in Fort Sill, Oklahoma, on May 11, 1953, the oldest of four boys, to George and Mary Schultz.

Mike married his high school sweetheart, Kathy, in 1975, and began their married life in Wyoming, where they had two sons.

Mike Dagwood, as he was known to his friends and family, served as a professional pilot for 24 years with the United States Custom Service before retiring in 2010 in Montana as the Director of Operations of the Montana Air Branch. In 2010, they relocated to their retirement home in Sunlight Basin, Cody, Wyoming, where he embraced his passion of the outdoors. Here he enjoyed his lifelong loves of fishing, hunting, camping, hiking, and cooking.

During his retirement years his bucket list was fulfilled through their travels throughout the United States. He sustained many friendships, where even in his last months, he shared his stories of adventures, reminisced about fond memories, and enjoyed hours of family fun.

Mike's legacy is a devoted family who will miss him deeply. He is survived by his wife, Kathy; his two sons, Jeff and Jason and their wives, Taryn and Macey; his six grandchildren Madison, Triston, Ayden, Piper, Landon, Christian; his father George; his stepmother Joan; his three brothers Marc, Matt, and Jon; and his many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, located at 2725 S. Hwy. 17, Crescent City, Florida on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. followed by a Celebration of Life at the Schultz family home.

Mike will be missed by many. Have known Mike since Altamonte Elementary and all through Jr High and High. He was always a very sweet man with an adorable smile. Rest in Peace and God Bless.

Well for me this is a hard one.  Mike was my first boyfriend in ninth grade and we had the best time at football games as he was a football player.  Many memories of his brothers and his dad.  My heart goes to Kathy and her family.  My deepest condolences.

I did not know Mike as well as Cindy and Ashley but as I remember him, he was always nice to everyone.  I also remember him on the football field!  I'm sure the character he showed in H.S. continued with him as an adult.  My heart hurts for his family, and I pray the peace of God fills them and comforts them through this very difficult time.

“Good guy, gentleman, cheerful, genuine, dedicated, leader, professional, respected, fair, and a man who loved his wife, sons and family.” These are some of the words used by Mike’s closest friends and coworkers on his condolence page. Although I only saw Mike and Kathy a couple of times after high school, the words paint a perfect description of the man that I always thought Mike would become. I would add quiet and strong to this list, and someone who was always fun to be around. I pray that Kathy, their sons and families will experience the peace and comfort that only God can provide in Mike's temporary absence.
